The Knights wrestling team lost a hard-fought dual against Connersville, 43-22. The Knights were only victorious in five of fourteen weight classes but lost several other close matches. The meet opened at the 152-pound weight class with a forfeit to Connersville. The Knights came right back with a close win by Jimmy Shaw at 160 with a reversal to go up 7-6 with under ten seconds left in the match. Kerry Raab lost a tough 10-4 decision at 170 to make the team score 9-3. Darrel Walker wrestled a back and forth match, having his opponent on his back before falling victim himself. Brad Bruner suffered a major decision while wrestling solidly.
Dustin Conety then came back for the Knights with a strong major decision at 220 pounds to make the team score 19-7 in favor of the Spartans. Sean Caddell would fall victim to another close match at 285 while Zak Brown also suffered a loss at 106 to make it 25-7.
Nathan Boggs put some points back on the good side of the ledger with an 8-3 win. This was followed up with a win by Josh Hines on a defensive pin late in his match. The score now stood at 25-16. The Knights then suffered three straight losses by Mac Espedilla, Daemon Lane, Logan Hyatt against some very solid Connersville opponents. The Knights were able to finish off the meet with a solid fall by Brandon Manning to close out the scoring at 43-22.
The Knights now stand at 5-1 overall on the season. Senior Jimmy Shaw (160) and freshman Nathan Boggs (113) both remain undefeated at 6-0 on the year.
The Knights will return to action this Saturday when the varsity heads to the Ryle Raider Rumble in Union, Kentucky for a tough 18-team tournament which starts at 9:30 A.M. The reserve squad will host the South Dearborn Reserve Invitational at home on Saturday beginning at 9 A.M.
