On Saturday, December 2, 2017 Coach Gardner’s South Dearborn Knights wrestling team traveled to Milan for the 6-way dual meet. The Knights started the day with a dominating performance against Batesville with a score of 67-12. South Dearborn’s second round of the day would prove to be a little tougher as they faced a solid Lawrenceburg Tigers line up. After a few exciting back and forth matches the Knights began to take control of the mat and walked away with a victory 45 to 33. The third dual proved to be the toughest as the Knights faced the Rushville Lions. The Lions came ready to wrestle, and after 14 hands had been raised in an all- out battle till the end, Rushville came out on top with a score of 39-38. In true fashion, adversity always brings out the best in a competitor. The Knights would take on the Milan Indians in round four. Prior to the round starting Coach Gardner gave his team a pep talk and looked to motivate them back to their winning ways. The talk from Coach Gardner must have worked as the Knights rolled through the Indians with a 55 – 24 victory. In the final dual of the day the Knights faced off against Union County Patriots. As the Patriots were forced to forfeit 6 weight classes, this dual did not last long and again the Knights were victorious with a score of 72 – 11.
The South Dearborn Knights had five individual tournament champions:
Bryer Hall (F) 126lbs
Austin Boggs (J) 132lbs
Garrett Walton (S) 138lbs
Zach Otto (J) 145lbs
Luke Utterback (S) 195lbs
Special thanks to Coach Hall for the information provided.
