Both the Boys and Girls SD Track and Field Teams placed 6th in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at Batesville High School yesterday.
Grace Quinlan was named EIAC Most Valuable Athlete by winning the High Jump and 300 Hurdles, placing 4th in the 100 Hurdles, and running a leg on SD’s 6th place 4×400 team. Quinlan’s time of 17.11 in the 100 Hurdles was 2nd all-time at SD, behind Maggie Smith’s time of 16.04 set in 2006.
SD’s other Conference Champion was Sam Gabbard in the 3200. Gabbard ran comfortably in the top three through the first mile then took a commanding lead he would not relinquish.
Luke Utterback was runner-up in a tough 110 High Hurdle field. His time of 15.66 is .08 from Jesse Adams’ school record set in 2012.
The Knights are now poised for Sectional competition. The girls will compete in the Franklin County Sectional on Tuesday and the boys in the East Central Sectional.
