On a sunny and calm day, the Knights Track and Field team competed in the Deer Park Invitational.
Both the boys and girls squads were victorious in the 9-team field.
The girls were 65 points better than their closest competitor by winning seven events. Grace Quinlan was the team’s high point scorer, earning 40 points by winning the High Jump, 100 Hurdles, 300 hurdles and anchoring the victorious 4×400 relay team. Junior Erin Huber earned 32 points, by winning the 100 Dash, finishing 3rd in the 400, and running legs on the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Amanda Mathews and Zoe Ross both scored 28.
The boys were also victorious, but in a more dramatic fashion. The Knights trailed by two points behind Roger Bacon High School heading into the 17th and final event: the 4×400 relay. The SD team of Chance Sperringer, Timmy Dick, Bailey Whitelock, and Gage Bader held off the charging Trojan team by .22 seconds to seal a one-point team victory.
