Boys Varsity Baseball · Kunkel’s Walk-off Picture Perfect Ending In Knights Varsity’s Victory Over Rushville

A walk-off single propelled South Dearborn to a decisive, dramatic victory over Rushville Consolidated High School, 15-14. South Dearborn trailed 14-13 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Adam Kunkel singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. South Dearborn collected ten hits and Rushville Consolidated High School had 12.

South Dearborn evened things up at six in the bottom of the second inning when Nolan McLane singled.  South Dearborn scored seven runs in the inning. Hunter Hatfield, Dylan Wynn, Tobie Teke, and Reese Willoughby all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Willoughby pitched South Dearborn to victory. The pitcher lasted one inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking zero. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Kunkel, McLane, Hatfield, and Luke Brown all securing outs and ultimately the victory.

South Dearborn collected ten hits. Hatfield, Teke, McLane, and Willoughby all had two hits to lead South Dearborn.

South Dearborn improved their record to 3-2 on the season, 2-0 in EIAC conference play.
